Jen Walker, Counsellor in Bath ,

Jen Walker

(she/her)  BACP accredited counsellor offering support with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, autism, ADHD, relationships, bereavement, trauma and more.

There is nothing more powerful than feeling truly heard and understood by another person, without judgement or criticism. When that happens, it can enable us to explore how we think and feel in a much deeper, more authentic way. Then, we can begin to learn, grow and flourish.

What I can offer support with. I am an experienced BACP accredited, integrative counsellor, offering you a warm, safe, confidential space to share whatever issues you are facing. I offer support with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, autism, ADHD, relationships, bereavement, loss, transitions and more.

My experience as a counsellor includes working with adults, 18-25 yr olds, undergraduate and PhD students (of all ages). I welcome diversity and have experience working with different cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, gender, relationship and sexual identities, and individuals who are neurodivergent. I am mindful of how different identities can intersect and add to the experience of minority stress.

My approach is holistic which means that every part of you and your experience (physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual) is welcomed and valued. I draw on multiple theories to support our work, including person-centred (you are the expert, and I am alongside you), psychodynamic (looking at patterns in how we feel, think, behave and relate to others) and existential (making meaning of life and death). I also use some ideas from DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy), especially when emotions are intense, and we are working to support emotional regulation.

I believe that each of us has a knowledge, deep inside, of who we are, what is important to us and what gives our life meaning.  Throughout life, we may have struggled to connect with that inner knowing or have simply lost touch with it. When that happens, it can affect how we experience ourselves, our relationships with other people and with the world more generally. Through the therapeutic relationship, I believe it is possible to reconnect with that inner knowing, to rebuild trust in oneself and others (where it has been lost) and live life more fully.

I offer both shorter (min 6 sessions) and longer-term therapy, depending on what would best support our work together.

What next? The most important part of any therapy is the relationship that we build together. I suggest meeting for an initial session first, before making any further commitment. An initial session enables us to see what it might be like to work together and for you to ask any questions you might have. The cost of an initial session, and all sessions thereafter, is £55 for 50 mins.

If you would like to book, or have any further questions, please do email or phone. I look forward to hearing from you.
