I am in my seventh (submission) year of training currently writing my dissertation for an MA in Integrative and Humanistic Psychotherapy at BCPC in Bath. The main focus of my dissertation research is on Early Abandonment, Loss, and Separation anxiety and how it manifests in later life.
As a relationally - oriented practitioner, I aim to support open dialogue, meaningful personal development, and self-reflection, learning to tolerate the degree of existential anxiety and uncertainty present in our lives. By allowing space for whatever arises whether spontaneously or at the client`s choice, areas of importance soon become evident to both me and the client.
The first session together is treated as an initial interview. During this session, I will usually ask what is bringing you to psychotherapy and try to gain a picture of your circumstances and history. We will talk about your hopes and expectations, the therapy frame, and the terms of the Therapy Agreement.
Sessions are for 50 minutes and I usually see clients once or twice at the same time each week. If you choose to work online, you need to ensure you have a good internet connection and a private space where you feel comfortable talking during the session.
I am trained as EFTi accredited Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Advanced (Level 3) practitioner and use this modality in my work with clients and offer it as a separate therapy. In my work, I use focusing, body therapy, visualization, and mindfulness techniques to help clients to improve access to their resources and disassociated parts and expand their awareness as a way for personal and emotional growth.
I work from my home in Bath (Odd Down). I offer individual psychotherapy sessions in a private, safe, and confidential setting where we can discuss what you would like to work on.
Work is open-ended, meaning it continues for as long as you want or need it. This may be as few as six to twelve sessions to help you clarify your thinking about a particular issue, but most people remain in therapy from six months to three years or longer.
I offer to start with a limited number of sessions (six to twelve), to give us time to get to know each other and understand if we are the right match for longer-term therapy.
All sessions are strictly confidential. I will only break confidentiality if I believe there is a specific and imminent danger to you or someone else, or if it is required by court order. Even in these circumstances, I would talk to you beforehand so that nothing discussed in sessions is disclosed to others without your knowledge.
Anything can be discussed in psychotherapy. The practice of speaking, observing, and reflecting on one`s life in a place of safety, without fear of being judged, allows defenses to be overcome and a clearer sense of oneself as a whole can begin to emerge, along with a feeling of being deeply known.
Work moves at a pace and in a direction dictated by the client. What is needed from the therapeutic relationship may take time to emerge or change over time.
In the past seven years, I have been working with clients who came to see me for a variety of reasons including:
- Separation and abandonment anxiety
- Attachment issues
- Guilt, anger issues, and depression
- Relationship and trust difficulties
- Sexual abuse
- Mindfulness, spirituality, transcendental experience
- Processing Trauma, Childhood trauma
- Work-related stress and anxiety
- Bereavement, loss, and grief
Before you make the decision to begin therapy you may have some questions about what the process might entail or how it might help you. Since evidence suggests that it is the relationship between you and your therapist that has one of the greatest impacts on the success of the work you do in counseling or psychotherapy, please feel welcome to contact me and we can have a conversation prior to your booking an initial interview/session.
At the moment I offer therapy sessions face-to-face, online on Zoom, or over the phone.
If you would like to arrange an initial interview, please email or text me with your name and contact details and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
