About

AFFORDABLE COUNSELLING IN BRADFORD-ON-AVON, WEST WILTSHIRE

Further Information

I offer counselling from a small therapy centre in Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire. It's easily reached from Bath, Corsham, Devizes, Melksham, Trowbridge and surrounding areas.

My aim is to help you explore your feelings and experiences, including those that may be painful. This can help you deal with the difficulties you face.

Typically, I work with people experiencing:

  • anxiety
  • depression and low mood
  • low self-esteem
  • stress
  • relationship problems
  • bereavement
  • chronic illness.

How I work

I am trained in humanistic counselling. In essence, that means I start with a basic belief in your potential to heal and grow, and I see my job as a counsellor as being to help you achieve that potential.

I try to do that by doing my best to understand you and your experiences while being accepting and non-judgemental. I don’t pretend to be an expert with all the answers; I believe you are the expert on you.

I work in what is called an integrative way. That means I use a range of therapeutic models – mainly the person-centred approach and a strand of psychodynamic theory known as object relations. All of this off-putting jargon really means that my focus is on the relationship between us. I believe this is the key to understanding, healing and change in therapy.

Ethics

I’m a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

About me

I have been providing counselling since 2010. I work as a counsellor in private practice in Bradford on Avon as well as for Relate in Trowbridge and at City of Bath College.

From 2010 to 2013, I worked in the well-regarded NHS South Gloucestershire counselling service providing counselling to patients referred to me by their GP.

My experience in a helping role began when I worked as a volunteer for The Samaritans in the late 1990s. I went on to be a mentor in schools and an ‘independent visitor’ supporting a young person in social care.

I began formal counselling training in 2007. In 2012, I was awarded a diploma in humanistic and integrative counselling from Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BCPC). In 2014, I completed post-graduate training in schools counselling run byThe Bridge Foundation in Bristol in conjunction with Wessex Counselling Service.
