Psychotherapist

When trying to resolve our difficulties we mostly try to go it alone, drawing on our own inner resources or with the help of those close to us. But there are times, I have found, when it is simply too hard to see the wood for the trees or to bear traumatic life events by ourselves or with the help of family or friends. At these times in our lives, working one-to-one with a therapist is an option which can help; it is possible to explore a whole host of feelings and emotions, to re/discover a sense of perspective and of being alive to the world.

Whether it is your experience of relationships, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, parenting, or loss in its varying forms, that prompts you to explore therapy, I can provide the support you need. Sometimes it might be hard to find a name or the words to describe what it is that we are feeling – and that is fine, I can work with that too. I start wherever you are, with whatever you bring.

Developing a collaborative relationship with my clients is central to the way I work, and this is especially important as research has shown that a good therapist-client relationship is more effective than the method or technique used by the therapist.

I am a qualified psychotherapist, registered with UKCP, based in Bristol, and working online. Before training as a Psychotherapist, I worked for over thirty years in the field of social care, both within the voluntary and statutory sectors. My work experience spans working within Community Mental Health Teams, managing residential and day care settings, Mental Health Advocacy and Advice, and commissioning services for older people, disabled people, and people with mental health support needs. I have also worked within universities as a Research Associate on projects looking at the development of adoption support services and respite care services for disabled people. I am therefore able to bring a wealth of wider life and work experience to the therapeutic setting.

I always work to ensure that my clients feel safe, heard, understood, and not judged. Being registered with UKCP and as a member of BCPC, I am committed to maintaining high professional standards. I adhere to both organisation’s established standards of professional practice, codes of ethics, continuing professional development, and complaints and conduct processes.
